"The title may be lighthearted, but the topic is a challenging one" says Dunn. "The sudden explosion of the Internet in recent years has made for much confusion as far as determining what the relationship of the law is to the 'Net."

The Internet is essentially a broadcast medium that operates in an environment free of physical borders, a condition which raises a number of compelling questions. As Dunn points out, "When you're on the 'Net, especially if you're doing business on it, you have to ask yourself these questions: What law is in force on the 'Net? Who enforces the law on the 'Net? Can traditional law survive in this new medium where business transactions are conducted on a global basis, from desktop to desktop?"

Gary Dunn is an experienced lawyer whose preferred area of practice is in intellectual property and business law for emerging companies in the information technology and computer software industries. In addition to regular speaking engagements focusing on internet commerce, Dunn is also a lecturer on legal and ethical issues in the Certificate in Internet Publishing offered by UBC Continuing Studies.
